This mariachi band was founded by Mr. Pedro Toledo of Nicaraguan nationality and his son Dagoberto Eliseo Toledo then 17 yrs. Old on the "Guitarron", or the Mexican base, a high school student at the time. And his daughter Kathy Auxiliadora Toledo, then ll yrs. Old on the violin, a junior high student then. And last but certainly not least, Mr. Pedro Toledo on the bihuela. It was at a family reunion on July 4,1998 at Mr. Marvin Campos' house a Nicaraguan trumpet player where also Mr. Juan Huerta was present. Juan Huerta being a Mexican trumpet player from Puebla mentioned our need of a trumpet player. It was at that point that he became our fourth element and the band's fIrst trumpet player.
On February 10,1999, we relocated to Indianapolis and thanks to the support of both the Hispanic and Anglo community, we were able to form our second group. This group was formed by Mr. Eduardo Lopez, Colombian trumpet player, Alberto Montijo, Mexican trumpet player, Jorge Vargas, singer, trumpet, guitarron, and bihuela player, also from Colombia, and Cruz Ruvalcaba, Mexican singer.
On July 25, of the present year our third group came about. Our female vocalists became part of our band. Iris Ramirez Spanish/English singer from South Texas and Nancy Jacuinde Spanish singer from Guadalajara, Mexico. Also Mr. Felipe Garcia from Zacatecas, Mexico violinist, Dudley A. Toledo, bihuela player, from Bluefields, Nicaragua Jose Cruz, from Guadalajara, Mexico trumpet player and Francisco Carpintero from Puebla, Mexico, violinist. And in this manner Mariachi Band Zelaya has acquired 12 full time members to this date. Mariachi Band Zelaya was the first mariachi band to be established in the city of Indianapolis. Our band consists of different nationalities; Nicaraguan, Mexican, Colombian, and Puertorican, that are reflected in the rich latin flavor of our music.
